The National People with Disabilities and Carer Council, chaired by Dr Rhonda Galbally AO, consists of up to 28 members, including the Chair, who represent a diverse range of backgrounds and experience. It includes people with disability and their families, carers, industry and union representatives, academics and members representing Indigenous Australians with disability.
The formation of this Council creates a single advisory body on the inter-related issues of disability and caring relationship.
Terms of reference
The National People with Disabilities and Carer Council will:
- Provide advice and information to the Minister and Parliamentary Secretary on issues affecting people with disability, their families and carers in Australia.
- Provide advice and information to the Minister and the Parliamentary Secretary on the implementation of the National Disability Strategy and the National Carer Strategy.
- Consult and provide input to the design and development of key reforms to improve services and access to services for people with disability.
- Provide advice on specific matters referred to it by the Minister and Parliamentary Secretary.
