Review of the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 – Submission

Equal Opportunity Practitioners in Higher Education Australasia

About EOPHEA

EOPHEA (Equal Opportunity Practitioners in Higher Education Australasia) is an association of staff in Universities who have a role in the areas of equity, diversity, workforce inclusion and participation, and social justice for their institution’s current and potential employees and/or students. It is generally EOPHEA staff managing responsibility for the development of their organisation’s annual EOWA Compliance Report and Employer of Choice for Women applications.

Equitable representation and distribution of women at all levels of the staffing profiles of higher education institutions, and equitable access to all the benefits of employment including opportunities for leadership is yet to be realised in the higher education sector, though there have been significant advances in some areas and the sector as a whole demonstrates a high level of compliance with the EOWA reporting framework.

Practitioners across Australia contributed to the submission. Many also developed more detailed responses on behalf of their university, and participated in the on line survey and consultation sessions conducted to inform this Review. This brief submission from EOPHEA is intended to support and supplement the feedback from the higher education sector to this Review.
