The University of Queensland welcomes the opportunity to provide a submission to the Review of the Equal Employment for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 and to comment on processes employed by The Equal Employment Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Commonwealth Agency (EOWA) in assessing workplace compliance.

UQ believes that the existence of such a body charged with monitoring and reporting on organisational performance in this regard has been an important driver of positive improvement in Australia, however, we have had some concerns that the Agency's methods were not always appropriately tailored to cater for the differences between sectors of Australian business and industry, or to enable the various contexts within which organisations operate to be appropriately taken into account.

Accordingly, we agree that it is timely that the Act and its Agency be reviewed and hope that this brings about the development of strategies that better reflect the diversity of corporate business in Australia and the increasingly complex nature of its workforce.

We look forward to the outcome of this Review.
