On the 22 November 2009 the Government announced its support for the establishment of a new national representative body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, to be known as the National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples, and has committed $29.2 million to the setting up and initial operation of the body up until December 2013
