On 8 August 2009, the Prime Minister, the Hon Kevin Rudd MP, with the former Minister for Housing, the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP, announced the Prime Minister’s Council on Homelessness. The Council ensures the accountability of the reform agenda of the White Paper on Homelessness by providing an independent overview of the implementation of White Paper goals and targets for 2013 and 2020, and providing advice to government on the progress, risks and emerging issues. The Council meets bimonthly, and reports directly to the Prime Minister.
