The Family Support Program is an initiative designed to improve outcomes for children and families by improving the Australian Government's ability to provide services to them. The Australian Government delivered a formal apology to the Forgotten Australians and former child migrants at a special remembrance event in Canberra on Monday 16 November 2009. The Australian Government is taking the lead with State and Territory Governments and the community sector to develop and implement a national framework for protecting Australia's children. Child Care Links was developed as a pilot program and uses child care centres in disadvantaged areas as community hubs to link families with young children to local support services and to strengthen community networks. Playgroups provide opportunities for children's social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. This is a place-based early intervention and prevention approach to child protection and development. Non government organisations are funded in 45 disadvantaged sites throughout Australia This program provides funding for early childhood programs and resources. Family Relationship Services Program (FRSP) is jointly funded by the Attorney-General's Department (AGD) and the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA). Men and Family Relationships Services work alongside men to assist them to manage a range of relationship issues with partners, ex-partners and children. The Government introduced wide-ranging reforms to ensure that same-sex de facto couples and their families are recognised and have the same entitlements as opposite-sex de facto couples.
