On 21 June, the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, the Hon Jenny Macklin MP and the former Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children's Services, the Hon Bill Shorten MP jointly announced an additional $4.5 million for the Australian Disability Enterprise sector in 2010-2011.
Australian Disability Enterprise organisations will shortly receive letters advising how and when payments will be made. In order to receive these payments promptly, organisations are required to sign and return to FaHCSIA their Letter of Variation to the 2010-11 DEA Funding Agreement by Friday, 25 June 2010.
In addition, a 12 month pause on Disability Maintenance Instrument (DMI) reassessments will take place from 1 July 2010. This means that DMI reassessments do not need to be undertaken, unless the provider, FaHCSIA, or the worker with disability, their family or carer request a reassessment is completed in accordance with a reduced list of ‘triggers'.
In these instances, the normal evidence collection requirement remains. More information about this initiative will soon be provided by FaHCSIA, including revised DMI Guidelines. DMI reassessments due before 1 July 2010 will still need to be completed.
A copy of Minister Macklin and Mr Shorten's media release announcing the measures is available from Bill Shorten's website.
