On 20 November 1978 the Central Land CoCoverncil lodged an application under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 on behalf of a number of Aboriginals claiming to have a traditional land claim to Willowra station.
The land lies some 350 kilometres north-west of Alice Springs and is bordered to its west by the Tanami Desert Wildlife Sanctuary, to its north and north-east by unalienated Crown land and to its south-east and south by other pastoral leases.
