On 19 August 1977 the Central Land Council lodged an application under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 on behalf of a number of Aboriginals claiming to have a traditional land claim to an area of unalienated Crown land east of the Stuart Highway and roughly half-way between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.
