NAIDOC stands for the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee. NAIDOC is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians in various fields. Activities take place across the nation during NAIDOC Week which is in the first full week of July.
FaHCSIA is responsible for supporting the National NAIDOC Committee in organising the national awards night, the poster competition and award nominations. FaHCSIA also administers the Public Awareness Program which is able to provide funding for NAIDOC celebrations across Australia.
