From 1 January 2008 ABSTUDY was amended to enable eligible students in the four communities of Aurukun, Coen, Hope Vale and Mossman Gorge to receive the ABSTUDY away from home entitlements to attend a secondary school outside their community.
The level of assistance provided will depend on the student's age, parental means-tests and where the student goes to school.
It is expected that around 60 additional students may benefit from this provision each year.
