The National Disability Strategy Implementation Reference Group (NDSIRG) will ensure the views of people with disability are heard as we work towards a ten year national plan for improving life for Australians with disability, their families and carers.
“The establishment of this Reference Group is a critical step in providing collaborative and expert advice and information to Government on issues relating to the implementation of the National Disability Strategy.”
The National Disability Strategy outlines a ten-year national policy framework, which all levels of government have committed to, to drive improvement across mainstream policies, programs, services and infrastructure as well as specialist disability services. The National Disability Strategy 2010-2020 Report to COAG 2012 strengthens the key objectives of the Strategy and incorporates the first implementation plan ‘Laying the Groundwork 2011-2014’ and the evaluation framework for the life of the Strategy.
The Reference Group comprises equal representation of members of the National People with Disabilities and Carer Council and National Organisations Representing People with Disability, their carers and families to help ensure that the views of people with disability are heard in the implementation of the Strategy.
The Reference Group is tasked with providing advice at a national level to the Australian Government on National Disability Strategy implementation issues through:
- members of organisations representing the views of their constituents on specific issues relating to the implementation of the NDS
- members selected from Council providing their expert advice on disability and carer issues.
