National Reciprocal Transport Concessions

The Australian Government will provide $50 million over four years to state and territory governments to allow the provision of reciprocal public transport concessions to holders of Seniors Cards issued by those governments.Background
Currently there are only limited reciprocal arrangements in place to allow Seniors Card holders to receive concessions on public transport services when they travel interstate. This proposal aims to allow all Seniors Card holders who travel interstate to receive public transport concessions on the same basis as Seniors Card holders who live in that state.National Reciprocal Transport Concessions is part of the 'Helping Seniors Make Ends Meet' package of measures being implemented from 2007 election commitments. Making Ends Meet commitments include:
- Helping Seniors Make Ends Meet - Broadband for Seniors
- Helping Seniors Make Ends Meet - Seniors Concession Allowance (paid in quarterly instalments, first paid in March with another payment due in June)
- Helping Seniors Make Ends Meet - Utilities Allowance - increase and extend eligibility (paid in quarterly instalments, first paid in March with another payment due in June)
- Helping Seniors Make Ends Meet - Telephone Allowance - assistance with home internet connections (first paid in March with another payment due in June)
