A Better Future for Indigenous Australians - continuation of the Cape York Digital Network

What's New?

The Government will provide $2.2 million over four years to continue the operation by the Cape York Digital Network (CYDN) of six community online access centres in remote communities in Cape York.

The Online Access Centres are located in Hopevale, Napranum, Umagico, Coen, Injinoo and Lockhart River. These centres will provide benefits to individuals in these remote community including:

Background

CYDN currently provides the Community Online Access Centres in these communities, as part of a suite of services initially established under the Networking the Nation initiative. Community Online Access Centres provide supported access to the internet and associated communications services in remote communities. Because of their remote locations and the high levels of disadvantage in these communities, these Centres can not be self sustaining without Government support.

Implementation:

The measure will start in the 2007-08 financial year.

Total Government Funding:

$2.2 million over four years.
