2.10 Election to Receive Baby Bonus

Introduction

An individual who wishes to receive baby bonus for a child must make an election to receive baby bonus to make sure they receive that payment for the child and not parental leave pay.

The full amounts of baby bonus and parental leave pay will not generally be paid for the same child, regardless of whether the care of the child is passed to different persons at various times.

Individuals can be paid parental leave pay if:

  • they meet the eligibility criteria, and
  • they and any person who has been their partner at any time since the DOB, or placement of the child in an adoption situation, have not, at the time they were members of a couple, already had a determination in their favour made for either baby bonus or parental leave pay in respect of the child.
