3.5.2.50 Calculating the Approved Care Multiple Child Percentage

Multiple child percentage (1.1.M.70) calculation

The multiple child percentage is determined by using the following formula:

  • (100 x [maximum weekly benefit (1.1.M.27) for all children in the type of care ÷ (maximum weekly benefit for one child in the type of care (1.1.T.70) x all children in that type of care)].

Example 1: Tony and Mary both work full-time and have 3 children. Their ATI (1.1.A.20) is below $39,785 per year. They use LDC (1.1.T.70) for all their children. Their multiple child percentage is calculated as follows:

  • 100 x {616.42 ÷ (189.00 x 3)}
  • = 100 x {616.42 ÷ 567.00}
  • = 100 x 1.0872
  • = 108.72%

Example 2: Evan and Jean have 3 children. Evan works full-time, while Jean stays home with their children. Their ATI is below $39,785 per year. Joe and Jerry, their eldest children, attend 24 hours of LDC per week. Jean also uses occasional care for their youngest child, Ashley, at times when she has appointments etc. As Ashley is in occasional care, she is not included in the calculation of the multiple child rate. If all children were in occasional care, all 3 would be included in the calculation of the multiple child rate. Their multiple child percentage is for the 2 children who attend the LDC centre calculated as follows:

  • 100 x {395.00 ÷ (189.00 x 2)}
  • = 100 x {395.00 ÷ 378.00}
  • = 100 x 1.045
  • = 104.50%

Example 3: Damir and Aida both work full-time and have 2 children. Their ATI is $94,000 per year. They use LDC for both their children. Their multiple child percentage is calculated as follows:

  • 100 x {236.03 ÷ (189.00 x 2)}
  • = 100 x {236.03 ÷ 378.00}
  • = 100 x 0.624418
  • = 62.44%
