Opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates

FaHCSIA strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates.

We recognise the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the unique knowledge and experiences that Indigenous staff bring to our workplace and their contribution towards the departments’ policy development and service delivery.

Using the FaHCSIA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Strategy, we support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff through mentoring, training and other career and development opportunities.

Opportunities for graduates with disability

We are committed to an inclusive work environment that enables people with disability to fully participate in all aspects of employment. We have a dedicated Disability Access Coordinator to support employees with disability and provide awareness training.

We are one of the few Australian Public Service agencies to provide a centralised fund for equipment and additional support for employees with disability. This may include adjustments to facilities, equipment, communications or work methods.

FaHCSIA has a higher number of staff with disability than the Australian Public Service (APS) average with – 5.6 per cent of our workforce identifying as a person with disability compared to the APS average of 2.8 per cent (based on the 2011–12 State of the Service report.) FaHCSIA maintains strong networks and support services to support employees with disability in their employment.
