
We are committed to ‘closing the gap’ on Indigenous disadvantage, including Indigenous employment. FaHCSIA demonstrates this by providing a range of services and programs that acknowledge the cultural heritage, skills and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Senior Level Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Champion
FaHCSIA has a dedicated Senior Level Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Champion within its Senior Leadership Group. The role of the Senior Level Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Champion involves:
- supporting the Department achieve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce and service delivery outcomes
- representing FaHCSIA management and employees at major Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander internal and external celebrations/functions/forums
- promoting support for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees
- championing the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff within the executive and Senior Leadership Group.
The Department's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Strategy provides a framework for recruiting, developing and retaining Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
We provide a range of services and support groups to Indigenous staff through the:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mentoring Program
- access to FaHCSIA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network at both the National and State levels
- Access to employment & training programs through the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC).
