Performance reporting in this Annual Report is based on FaCSIA’s Outcome and Output Structure.
As the Department’s business attends to the needs of a wide range of stakeholder groups, responsibilities are shared across more than 50 diverse branches. It is a challenge to provide a unified approach to reporting on performance. This year there has been a number of changes made to simplify and also enhance the way in which we report on our performance.
In particular we have focused on reporting against the indicators that are stated at output level in FaCSIA’s Portfolio Budget Statements (PBS). In future years, with further program and reporting simplification this will ensure increased transparency and allow the reader to see clear links between the performance targets set in the PBS and the Department’s performance outcomes and achievements.
At the end of last year’s annual reporting process, FaCSIA reporting went through extensive internal audits, we conducted a working group with other departments and we analysed feedback received from the Institute of Public Administration Australia. This work has allowed us to identify key areas for improvement.
Where possible, we have reduced narrative repetition and have consolidated financial and staffing resource information into performance output tables. Where there is variance between the estimate and actual results of performance indicators, we have included both and where possible described why a variance has occurred—this allows us to illustrate a clear link between the FaCSIA PBS and Annual Report.
The report now includes case studies and program highlights. The purpose of these new features is to enhance accessibility, to highlight important information and engage the reader.
FaCSIA will continue to review and improve its annual reporting processes in 2007–08.
This year FaCSIA aims to:
