Note 3: Events Occurring After Balance Date
On 15 April 2004, the Prime Minister announced the Government's intention to abolish the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) on 1 July 2004. An Administrative Arrangements Order signed 24 June 2004 and effective from 1 July 2004 effectively transfers the administration of ATSIC and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services (ATSIS) appropriations and programs to mainstream Government Departments, including Department of Family and Community Services. The financial effect of this transfer will be determined following completion of a section 32 determination under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997, with each respective Department.
