Reform of the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act

KPMG to undertake a consultation process with businesses and experts.

In 2010 the Australian Government committed to retain and improve the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) and its underlying legislation, the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 (EOWW Act).

As a key step in the reform process, the Minister for the Status of Women, Kate Ellis, recently announced that the Government would be working with KPMG over the coming months to identify meaningful measures of gender equality in the workplace as well as processes which ease the reporting burden on business.

The consultation project is significant in that it will deliver critical insights to the reform process, drawing on engagement with key stakeholders, including business and equal opportunity and industry experts.

Further information on the project and the Government's reforms to EOWA and the EOWW Act can be found in Minister Ellis' media release of 30 January 2011.
