Promoting Leading Practice in Native Title Agreements

The Attorney-General and the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs released the 'Leading Practice Agreements: Maximising Outcomes from Native Title Benefits Discussion Paper' on 3 July 2010 for public consultation on a possible package of reforms to promote leading practice in native title agreements and the governance of native title payments.

Public consultation meetings on the possible reforms will be conducted from 12 July 2010 to 23 July 2010 in, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, Darwin and Perth.

The Australian Government is also seeking written submissions from interested parties and the general public on the Discussion Paper.  Submissions can be sent to the Attorney-General's Department.

Submissions must be received by 5pm, 5 August 2010.
