The National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) is calling on all Australian adults, not just people who have children, to start thinking and talking about child abuse and neglect.
NAPCAN, with the support of FaHCSIA, are conducting a survey of community attitudes to help plan effective strategies to prevent child abuse and neglect. The survey will run from 6 September until the 1 November 2009.
The survey has been designed with the assistance of child protection researchers and can be accessed by visiting the Preventing Child Abuse website or calling 1800 126 456.
The safety and wellbeing of Australia’s children is everybody’s business. It is not just the responsibility of governments but should be shared by the whole Australian community—individuals, professionals, business and the media.
Background
Commonwealth, State and Territory governments and the non-government sector are committed to reducing child abuse and neglect in Australia.
This is reflected through the development and implementation of the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children, a long term approach to ensuring child safety and wellbeing endorsed by the Council of Australian Governments on 30 April 2009.
One of the many actions under the National Framework is the provision of ongoing support to important awareness raising initiatives such as the NAPCAN survey.
