Personal Helpers and Mentors

The Personal Helpers and Mentors (PHaMs) service aims to assist recovery for people whose lives are severely affected by severe mental illness to manage their daily activities.  Personal Helpers and Mentors form trusting, strong, long term relationships with people and provide guidance and support for people's recovery journey.  PHaMs provides opportunities for change and hope for a better future for people who participate in the service.

A quote from a PHaMs participant shows what it means to have a Personal Helper and Mentor:

"…I haven't been motivated to do anything for the past 10-15 years. Since working with my PHaMs worker I have been motivated and see things (life) in a different way.  I am attending computing weekly and now seeing a (recovery based) psychologist for the first time in
15 years and she is helping me get through issues of the past.  I'm going to PHaMs and looking to find a job in the near future.  I feel my mind is calm for the first time in years and can think more clearly.  My PHaMs worker has made me see all of my good points and to focus on them.  I am happy about change and a different future."
