The Australian Government has committed $1.8 million to extend the Business Ready Program for Indigenous Tourism (BRPIT) and promotion of Indigenous tourism to the international market for one year.The extension of the program enables continued mentoring to businesses currently involved in the program and maintains the Australian Government's commitment to Indigenous tourism.
Background
The BRPIT supports 24 start-up and established Indigenous tourism businesses to meet growing international and domestic demand for Indigenous tourism products. It also aims to improve employment outcomes for Indigenous people in the tourism industry.BRPIT funds mentors to deliver support to tourism businesses with an emphasis on the development of the skills necessary to run a financially viable business in the tourism industry.
BRPIT is currently the only program specifically targeting Indigenous tourism. The regions covered include: South Australia; Western New South Wales; the Northern Territory's top end; Central Australia; far North Queensland; and Western Australia.
