What's New?
The successful 2001-02 Budget measure for the targeted detection of incorrect payments and fraudulent claims will be continued for a further four years. This measure includes joint compliance activity and data-matching between Centrelink and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and funding for reviews arising from tip-offs from the public. It will provide savings for the Departments of Family and Community Services, Employment and Workplace Relations and Education, Science and Training.
Background
This measure comprises three components:
- joint Centrelink - ATO compliance activity;
- data-matching between Centrelink and the ATO to determine undeclared property assets and income; and
- capacity to process reviews arising from the increased 'tip-offs' received from the public.
Implementation
1 July 2005.
Total Financial Impact
Net savings of $453.6 million over four years, including net savings of $45.0 million over four years in the FaCS portfolio.
