This report outlines the findings of the Family Homelessness Prevention Pilot (FHPP). The FHPP operated in eight sites across Australia over a two-year period, from July 2002 to June 2004. This project, based in metropolitan Adelaide, modelled a new interventionist strategy for homeless families with children aged zero to 12 years with complex and multiple needs. The Uniting Families Project aims to reduce youth homelessness by stabilising young people within their families. This review indicates that strategic and systemic approaches to building individual and family capability can assist families experiencing homelessness to turn their lives around and become independent and contributing members of the community.
